Experience the magnificent cliffs, dramatic bays, and rolling countryside of this extinct volcano by helicopter.

Trip Overview

You will be greeted by our driver at the Akaroa wharf for a quick drive into the hills to our helipad. Your pilot will give you a safety briefing prior to boarding your helicopter. Lifting off, you will look down on your cruise ship as you fly over the rugged Banks Peninsula coastline towards the harbour entrance. Your pilot will inform and entertain you on your flight and point out areas of interest.

Experience a birds-eye view of the magnificent cliffs, dramatic bays, rolling countryside and the most amazing scenery this now extinct volcanic peninsula has to offer. Ancient lava flows can still be seen, as well as the splendid colours of the unique strata and rugged cliffs. Explore the shoreline from above - home to many native New Zealand birds, penguins and seals. You may be lucky to see our rarest dolphin, The Hectors Dolphin.

You will have many excellent opportunities to take photos on your journey. At the end of your flight you will be returned to Akaroa wharf.

Fantastic fun flying with Garden City Helicopters. Our Fantastic pilot Jono took us to Akaroa for a special day. Viewed the city, Brighton beach, Sumner, Port hills beautiful coast line and into Akaroa harbour. There were 6 of us and we all had good views. Thanks for a great day GCH. Awesome fun.

Well a huge huge thanks to the team at GCH….we had an absolute blast of a ride with your team member Reagan yesterday over to Akaroa….mum was a bit nervous but he explained everything and made me feel better about it. What an amazing way to see our beautiful country. Totally recommend people to tick this one off on their bucket list…don’t wait like I did for years to do it! Thanks again.

An awesome experience! We flew Christchurch to Akaroa and back. Time for lunch and a quick walk-around in between flights. It was amazing. Highly recommend it. Still buzzing 2 weeks later!
